The New Jersey Center for the Book commemorated Walt Whitman’s contribution to American letters and to New Jersey’s literary history by designating the Walt Whitman House in Camden a New Jersey Literary Landmark.  The ceremony was held on, November 6, 2009 on the Rutgers University Camden campus.

The Walt Whitman House is one of New Jersey’s preeminent cultural icons.  It is a great source of pride to recall the extraordinary work of Walt Whitman, one of America’s greatest poets, who drew inspiration from the people and places of New Jersey and from his beloved city of Camden.

Contributors to the event were Camden County Freeholder Riletta Cream and the Camden County Library and the Cultural and Heritage Commission.
