Thursday, June 11, 2009 Winants Hall, Rutgers Campus, 2:30pm to 5:00pm The New Jersey Center for the Book presented a very special reception at Winants Hall on the Rutgers University campus for the winners and semi-finalists of the 2008-2009 Letters About Literature Competition. The essay competition, co-sponsored by the Library of Congress, drew more than 150,000 entries from students in every State. This year, the New Jersey Center for the Book was proud to announce a national Level 3 winner.
Renee Swartz, Chair and Coordinator of the New Jersey Center for the Book, introduced Joshua Tiprigan, a junior at Northern Valley Regional High School, Old Tappan, the national level 3 winner in the Letters About Literature competition for 2008-2009. A special New Jersey Senate Resolution was presented to Mr. Tiprigan by Senator Gerald Cardinale. Certificates of Achievement were presented to all winners and semi-finalists .
Helen Solecki, grade 7, South-Orange Middle School in South Orange-Maplewood, was the first place winner in level 2. The level 1 first place winner was Leigh Deitz, a sixth grader from Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville. Grey, Director of the Newark Public Library, for her dedication to literature, reading, and the cultural heritage of New Jersey.
