The ceremony was held on Friday, November 6, 2009, from 11:00am to 2:00pm, on the Rutgers University Camden campus.
The Walt Whitman House is one of New Jersey's preeminent cultural icons. It is a great source of pride to recall the extraordinary work of Walt Whitman, one of America's greatest poets, who drew inspiration from the people and places of our great State and from his beloved City of Camden. The celebration will feature by an all-day event planned by Camden County Freeholder Riletta Cream and the New Jersey Center for the Book. The Canden County Library and the Cultural and Heritage Commission both presented programs and activities recognizing Walt Whitman. The Library has expanded its collections and offer web links about Whitman.
