New Jersey Notable Books 1995-2005

Twenty books have been selected representative of notable fiction and non-fiction books for adults, young adults, and children published between the years of 1995 and 2005 either by a New Jersey author, about New Jersey, or using New Jersey locales. Posters were distributed statewide to libraries.

Youth Detention Center Exhibit

May 13, 2005

The exhibit entitled Creative Writing and Artwork from Youth in the New Jersey Juvenile Justice System was the main feature of a reception held at the NJ State Library on May 13, 2005.

This program will showcase the creative spirit and talent evidenced in prose, poetry, and drawings from the seventeen New Jersey youth detention centers.

The display was exhibited on October 9, 2004, in the Pavilion of States at the National Book Festival on the Great Lawn in Washington, DC. Some photos of that event can be viewed here.

The traveling exhibit has been to the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Manalapan, and the Mercer County Library Headquarters, Lawrenceville and West Windsor Branch. It will soon be at the Bellmawr Branch of the Camden County Library, and is then scheduled to go to the Newark Public Library and the Ocean County Library.
