Showcasing Information Literacies: New Dimensions 2008 Newark Public Library, 9:15am to 3:30pm
The NJ Center for the Book is planning a day of celebration with
a focus on literacy, book arts, and poetry in partnership with the
Newark Public Library. It has been five years since the Newark Public
Library was designated as a literary landmark, and it is because of this
that Newark Public Library is selected for this years New Jersey
Center for the Book literary spectacular conference site.
Some of the topics being considered for the day include teaching
literacies, the art of storytelling for youth at risk, showcasing how to
present Shakespeare in the classroom, instruction in
genealogical searching for young people, and, finally, partnering with
New Jersey's Public Broadcasting Station in teacher resource
training. Mark your calendar and bookmark this page for updated
nformation about this wonderful opportunity.
The planning committee working hard to put together a
spectacular program. Both morning and afternoon sessions are planned
with three workshops in each that attendees will receive six
professional credits for the day. The agenda is geared to teachers,
parents,librarians, media specialists,principals, and school
superintendents, with emphasis on middle and high school curricula.
As a last year, a raffle for a laptop will be apart of the
daylong festivities. A continental breakfast and a hot and cold
luncheon buffet will be provided as part of the registration fee.
Letters about Literature 2007-2008
The New Jersey Center for the Book is again sponsoring the New Jersey portion of a national reading-writing contest sponsored by The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in partnership with Target Stores. New Jersey Notable Books 1995-2005
Twenty books have been selected representative of notable fiction and non-fiction books for adults, young adults, and children published between the years of 1995 and 2005 either by a New Jersey author, about New Jersey, or using New Jersey locales.
