2002-2003 Contest Information

The contest submission deadline was December 7, 2002.
There will be cash awards to the top essayists in New Jersey that will be presented by Governor McGreevey at the Governor’s Mansion. State first-place winners will advance for national judging.
New Jersey Judges are:
Category I (grades 4-6)
Lucille Davy, Counsel to Governor James McGreevey
Richard Bilotti, Editor, The Trenton Times
Bev Gallagher, New Jersey Teacher of the Year 2001
Dr. Gustav Friedrich, Dean Rutgers SCILS
Category II (grades 7-8)
Bonnie Kunzel, Youth Services Coordinator, New Jersey State Library, and also Former President of Youth Services Section of ALA
Kay Vandergrift, Professor, Rutgers School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies
Renee Swartz, Chair, New Jersey State Library Advisory Council
Amy Hill Hearth, Journalist and Author
Category III (grades 9-12)
W. Raymond Ollwerther, Executive Editor, The Asbury Park Press
Frank Miller, Member, New Jersey State Library Advisory Council
Ken Sheinbaum, Director, Monmouth County Library
Pat Morris, President and Executive Director, New Jersey Connection
All winners will be selected and notified by April 1, 2003.
