Letters about Literature 2005-2006
The New Jersey Center for the Book is again sponsoring the New Jersey portion of a national reading-writing contest sponsored by The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in partnership with Target Stores.
The task for young readers is to, “Write a letter to an author explaining how his or her work somehow changed your view of the world or yourself.”
There are three competition levels: grades 4-6 = I; grades 7 & 8 = II; and grades 9-12 = III. All entries must be received by December 1, 2005. Teachers or parents can obtain the official how-to-enter guidelines by contacting the national project director at lettersaboutlit@epix.net.
NJ State Winners will be honored at a reception on May 15, 2006, at Drumthwacket, Princeton, NJ.

Letters About Literature 2005-2006 Awards Ceremony
May 15, 2006, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Drumthwacket
354 Stockton Street (Route 206), Princeton, New Jersey
The New Jersey Center for the Book has been invited by Governor Jon Corzine to celebrate the 2006 talented youth from around the State at the inaugural event of opening Drumthwacket for special events. We are looking forward to having the Governor himself present the Certificates of Merit and an autographed book to each student semi-finalist and winner.
Author Eileen Cameron and Illustrator Doris Ettlinger, of NJ’s 2005 National Book Festival’s Featured Book, G is for Garden State, (click here for more on this book), will be guest speakers at this ceremony when the 111 New Jerseywinners will be honored.

Author/preservationist Eileen Cameron is interested in protecting our natural and historical resources. She serves on the board of the Washington Association of New Jersey at Morristown National Historical Park. Eileen has hiked the Appalachian Trail at High Point, rafted on the Delaware River, and now lives in Morristown, New Jersey.
Doris Ettlinger has illustrated numerous children's books including Sugar Snow and A Little House Birthday, both adapted from the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. Doris lives and works in a 150-year old gristmill in western New Jersey with her family and a Welsh Corgi.
