Mr. C got out of his car and started fast-walking across the parking lot. In the distance, he could see the library on the campus of Rutgers University. That was where he was headed on this blue and sunny day, and he was running late.
His cellphone rang, and he took it out of his pocket without stopping. A quick look at the screen told him it was his wife, Gloria, calling.
“Hi dear,” he said between heavy breaths. “What’s up?”
“I didn’t get to say goodbye when you left this morning!” she told him. “And on one of the biggest days of your life!”
“I know, I’m sorry. I had to hurry. I didn’t sleep well last night, and I got up later than I should have.”
“I hope you don’t look like you didn’t sleep well!” Gloria said with a chuckle. “It’s not every day a children’s librarian like yourself gets to meet the President of the United States!”
